A 28-year-old man died by suicide at Karakonam in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on Sunday morning, allegedly due to frustration over the cancellation of the Kerala Public Service Commission list for the appointment of civil excise officers, The New Indian Express reported. The deceased, identified as Anu, had secured 77th rank in these examinations. Anu’s elder brother found him hanging in his room. In his suicide note, Anu he said he killed himself due to unemployment. “He was working hard to get a job in government services,” Anu’s brother told the media. “He got disappointed when the PSC list expired recently.” Anu’s parents said he had been depressed due to the lack of a job. The Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) will release the UGET 2020 final answer keys today, August 31. All the students who had appeared for the COMEDK UGET 2020 exam can download the answer keys from the official website , comedk.org. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said on Sunday that eight people have been killed in rain-related incidents in the state, PTI reported. He added that efforts were on to evacuate nearly 1,200 people stranded in 40 flooded villages. The bureaucracy blamed the high-intensity rainfall and outdated infrastructure; the people blamed it on a lack of “political will” and an absence of planning. After the devastating 2005 floods in Mumbai, the Madhav Chitale Committee report pointed out that even if the entire system had been upgraded as per its new stormwater drainage project or BRIMSTOWAD, it would not have been adequate for the rainfall of such high intensity. The Ministry of Finance has asked banks not to levy any charges on electronic transactions or payments, the Central Board of Direct Taxes said in a statement on Sunday, ANI reported. CBDT said it received representations that some banks were imposing and collecting charges on transactions carried out through UPI. The board said that these banks allowed a certain number of transactions to be free, beyond which they levied a charge. “This is in violation of the Circular no 32/2019 dated December 30, 2019, which was issued by CBDT to clarify that based on section 10A of (Payment and Settlement System (PSS) Act, any charge including MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) shall not be applicable on or after January 1, 2020 on payments made through electronic modes,” the press release said. The Supreme Court on Monday will pronounce its sentence for lawyer Prashant Bhushan in a contempt of court case, NDTV reported. Ahead of the order, 122 law students from across India have written to Chief Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde and other Supreme Court judges to reconsider the judgement holding Bhushan guilty of contempt for his tweets criticising Bobde and the top court. Bhushan has, despite multiple Supreme Court exhortations, refused to apologise for his remarks. Security forces on Sunday killed three suspected militants in a gunfight in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Kashmir Zone Police said. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries on Saturday announced the acquisition of the retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing businesses of Kishore Biyani’s Future Group for Rs 24,713 crore. The acquisition was done through the company’s subsidiary Reliance Retail Ventures. Reliance Retail will now have access to close to 1,800 outlets of Future Group’s Big Bazaar, Easyday, Central, and Foodhall stores, which are spread across 420 cities in India. “Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd (RRVL), subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd will acquire the retail and wholesale business and the logistics and warehousing business from the Future Group as going concerns on a slump sale basis for lumpsum aggregate consideration of INR 24,713 crore,” the company said in a statement.
